Brooke Sheilds... supporting her old pal Ellen Sassa

OK Weekly Magazine

August 7, 2006

OK caught up with Brooke... where she was supporting her old pal Ellen Sassa at the launch of her jewelry line Unlocked Secret. A portion of the proceeds from the bracelets go to support Spirituality For Kids, a non-profit Kabbalah organization dedicated to empowering children around the world...

Let’s talk about the jewelry here today. How do you know Ellen?

We first met through her husband [Scott Sassa], since he was my boss [Sassa was president of NBC West Coast in the late 1990s]. Then I met her kids, and they were so delightful that you just end up liking the parents even more! Our daughters are also in the same class.

What do you think of her jewelry?

When she started to tell me about her art, it made me start thinking about spirituality. It got me thinking about the lower socio-economic area and how it might help. I like the idea of nurturing that area for the youth of our nation.

Did that idea come to you after you had kids?

No, I’ve always had it... the concepts that I’ve learned from my Kabbalah friends are universal. It’s all about the understanding of the universe and how we’re all connected. I think that could help people have more self-esteem. It is about redirecting you onto a better path. What I know is that I like the sense of consistency that spirituality brings.

What bracelet did you choose?

I started off with one because I needed protection, and this week I need love. I felt like I needed the love this week!
